Liège sightseeing tours

Organized by the Artefact association, affiliated with the University of Liège

Wednesday, 5:30 PM - 7 PM
Two options: the historic city center or the Outremeuse district.

Duration: 1 hour30, 20 participants max /group, 2 groups in English.

Friday, 2 PM-3:30 PM

"In-Situ" session

Description

Field demonstrations of innovative remediation techniques (notably NICOLE Innovation Award). Companies will demonstrate their technology in Liège and explain improvements and developments. In the field, attendees will meet the companies, with people, and technologies in action. A specific call will be launched via the website to select the companies that can demonstrate innovative techniques on site.

Brownfield redevelopment: two case studies natural reserve and UNESCO cultural heritage site

Description

Île aux Corsaires is a former industrial site belonging to UmiCore (zinc production company). Its name derives from the children who once played pirates here. Today, the site abounds in highly specific flora, adapted to soils enriched with heavy metals. Blegny-Mine is one of the four authentic coal mines in Europe with underground galleries accessible for the visitors through the original shaft. Equipped with a jacket and a helmet, take the mining cage down to the galleries located - 30 and - 60 metres below the ground level to understand how coal was extracted.

Olivier Burton (DEME Group), Arnaud Peters (ULiege), Valérie Depaye (Erigès, Seraing's Masterplan), representative of the Ministry of the Economy of the Walloon region, and of Duferco Wallonie.

Description

This event will be a combination of visits to pilot sites (the European IASIS project and the DEME group) and presentations by various Walloon stakeholders who will trace the industrial history of Wallonia and explain how the Walloon Region is organizing the conversion of large strategic brownfield sites. The event will take place at the Om in the former Cockerill town hall and will end with a networking lunch. 

When & where

Departure from the conference centre at 9 am by bus (optionally, you are welcome to join us using your own car).

Visit of the IASIS Pilot site from 9:20 to 10:00.

Conference and Lunch at Om (Quai Louva, 1 4102 Seraing) from 10:15 am to 2:00 pm. At 2:00 pm, the bus will start its return journey to the conference centre (approx. 15 mins).
