
Revitalizing Industrial Brownfields: A Walloon Commitment in Action
On June 20, 2025, a dedicated morning session will spotlight the redevelopment of industrial brownfields in Wallonia, with a special focus on the flagship project: the Coke Plant of Ougrée in Seraing.
This session aims to showcase the progress achieved, the key stakeholders involved, the resources mobilized, and the innovative strategies driving post-industrial transformation. The initiative is led by SORECO, a dynamic public-private partnership between DEME Environnement and Wallonie Entreprendre.
Program Overview:
- 9:15 AM – Guided tour of the phytomanagement pilot site in Sclessin (Duferco Wallonie site)
- 10:00 AM – Conference (in English) at the Om venue at Seraing, featuring:
• Presentation by Duferco Wallonie on the Sclessin site and other redevelopment examples
• Overview of Wallonia’s industrial legacy and current redevelopment challenges
• Address by Minister of Economy Pierre-Yves Jeholet on the regional strategy
• Case study on the transformation of Seraing, an 800-hectare area under redevelopment for over 20 years
• In-depth presentation of the Coke Plant redevelopment project by SORECO, including the “fast track” mechanism implemented by the Walloon Public Service - 12:00 PM – Lunch
- 1:00 PM – Guided tour of the Coke Plant of Ougrée in Seraing
